Description
Feeling tired, lack of energy or shortness of breath are symptoms of iron deficiency anaemia. Check your iron profile with our simple blood test
This test comes as standard with our Arm Auto collect device – a quick, simple and painless way of collecting your blood at home. One click and the device collects your blood automatically from your arm.
Recommended alongside our Bowel Cancer Screening test as Iron deficiency anaemia can provide a false negative reading with a FIT test
- Iron deficiency anaemia affects around 2–5% of adult men and postmenopausal women in the UK. It is estimated 500 million people worldwide are affected by iron deficiency anaemia
- Our Iron and Ferritin test looks at the amount of iron, ferritin, transferrin, and total iron binding capacity (TIBC) in your blood.
- Iron deficiency anaemia is the most common cause of anaemia. If you have low iron this can in-turn cause a low number of red blood cells to be produced. Red blood cells are important for carrying oxygen around your body to your organs and tissues and a reduction in red blood cells will therefore mean less oxygen will reach your organs and tissues. The resulting symptoms include:
- Tiredness and lack of energy
- Shortness of breath
- Heart palpitations
What’s Included In This Test?
- Iron
- Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC)
- Unsaturated Iron Binding Capacity (UIBC)
- Ferritin
- Transferrin Saturation
How to take my sample?
Fingerprick blood collection is not available with our iron profile blood test due to ensure. The test comes as standard with our new auto collection device – One click and the device collects your blood automatically from your arm. Quick, simple and painless. This ensures that your blood sample is collected seamlessly and reduces the chances of haemolysis (where we can’t test your sample).
