What is Calprotectin?
Calprotectin is a protein biomarker that is present in the faeces when intestinal inflammation occurs. Calprotectin levels are significantly elevated in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and therefore it is recommended by NICE as a reliable non-invasive test to rule out IBD
Why take this test?
Because the symptoms of Bowel Cancer and gut inflammatory conditions and diseases can be very similar, this 2-in-1 combined test can detect if you may have a gut inflammation condition as well as screen for Bowel Cancer from the same faecal sample.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Bowel Cancer Screening & Gut Inflammation Test
Do I need to prepare for the test?
No. Unlike other screening tests, such as the guaiac faecal occult blood test (FOBT), there are no dietary or medication restrictions and only one bowel movement (sample) is required for testing
How do I take the test?
Everything you need to take the test is included in your test kit. Take a small poo sample from the comfort of your home and send it off in the pre-paid unbranded and discreet mailing bag to our UKAS-accredited lab for testing. You can post this at any postbox, Post Office, or Royal Mail sorting office. Results are usually available the same working day from the lab receiving your sample, giving you an exact reading of the amount of blood (if any) in your stool.
What if my results are abnormal?
If your results are abnormal, we will contact you to go through the next steps, answer any questions you may have, and provide a free referral letter to provide to your GP.
