Advanced Proclarix PSA Test

A non-invasive CE-IVD marked blood test detecting clinically significant prostate cancer in men with a normal or “grey” area PSA result of between 2 – 10ng/mL

A useful blood test to screen for prostate cancer in men who have a normal or "grey" area PSA level

1 in 7 men with prostate cancer have a normal PSA result

We have teamed up with Cambridge Clinical Laboratories to offer an advanced PSA test known as Proclarix®, which is a non-invasive CE-IVD marked blood test with a 90% sensitivity in detecting clinically significant prostate cancer in men with a normal or “grey” area PSA result of between 2 – 10ng/mL.

Research has shown 1 in 7 men with prostate cancer have a normal PSA result. Our Advanced Proclarix® PSA test uses next-generation testing to help screen men who may potentially have prostate cancer but have no symptoms and a normal PSA level, which would otherwise not trigger further diagnostic tests.

The Advanced Proclarix® PSA test complements traditional diagnostic tests and specifically looks for proteins known as THBS1 and CTSD that have been shown as potential tumour suppressors in Prostate Cancer. It combines this result, alongside a PSA result and your age to give a risk score for clinically significant cancer. The test has been shown to rule out 95% of men with no or insignificant cancer and help avoid 37% of biopsies needed to reliably detect clinically significant prostate cancer.

Our Phlebotomist will take a blood sample from your arm. Cambridge Clinical Laboratory will perform a PSA test. If your Total PSA result is between 2 – 10ng/mL, the Proclarix® PSA test will be performed and a risk score provided. If your Total PSA result is elevated or out of range you will only be charged for the PSA test at £120.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, with around 52,300 new cases every year in the UK (around 140 every day between 2016-2018).

Symptoms do not usually occur until the cancer has grown large enough to put pressure on the urethra (The tube that carries urine from the bladder out of the penis).

Symptoms may include:

  • Trouble urinating
  • Decreased force in the stream of urine
  • Blood in the urine
  • Blood in the semen
  • Bone pain
  • Losing weight without trying
  • Erectile dysfunction

If you have recently had a PSA test with a result between 2 – 10 ng/mL this test may be useful to detect whether further testing should be done for prostate cancer

You should not have any of the following prior to your PSA test:

  • An active urinary infection or within previous 6 weeks.
  • Ejaculated in previous 48 hours.
  • Exercised vigorously, for example cycling, in the previous 48 hours.
  • Had a urological intervention such as prostate biopsy in previous 6 weeks.
