EarlyCDT Lung Cancer Screening Test
World’s most thoroughly validated blood test for the detection of lung cancer
Detect lung cancer on average 4 years earlier compared to current standard clinical diagnosis. Over 200,000 tests performed worldwide
This test screens for antibodies that can be linked to an increased risk of developing lung cancer and can detect lung cancer on average 4 years earlier compared to current standard clinical diagnosis. In an NHS trial, this test was shown in a large prospective population to reduce late-stage presentation of lung cancer by 36%! The trial showed that levels of the autoantibodies detected by this test could be elevated up to 9 years before clinical diagnosis of lung cancer with a median detection lead time of 4 years
WHY TEST FOR LUNG CANCER?
Lung cancer is the world’s leading cause of cancer-related death and is often detected at an advanced stage with approximately 85% of patients in the UK undiagnosed until the disease has spread to other parts of the body.
This blood test is validated for anyone aged 50 years or over and with a history of smoking. No need to visit your GP, and no referral is needed.
- EarlyCDT Score for 7 auto antibodies linked to an increased risk of developing lung cancer. These include cancer antigens (CAGE, GBU4-5, HuD, MAGE A4, NY-ESO-1, p53 and SOX2) that are present from the earliest stages of lung cancer
To be eligible for this test you must already have an elevated risk of lung cancer as predicted by age, gender, smoking history and other risk factors (See below)
Current recommendations for eligibility for testing:
- Patients that are 50 years of age or older with at least a 20-pack year smoking history (equivalent to smoking one pack of cigarettes per day for 20 years).
- Patients that are 40-49 years of age with at least a 20-pack year history plus at least one additional risk factor (see Risk Factors below)
Current Risk Factors
- Environmental exposures (dust, asbestos, radioactive substances),
- Those with a history of emphysema/COPD, ora
- Family history of lung cancer in a first degree relative
If you have a previous history of cancer of any type, you should NOT take this test. The exception to this is for patients with a history of basal cell carcinoma (BCC). A study was conducted, and the data demonstrated that BCC does not impact the EarlyCDT Lung test result
